- In 2010 the leaders of some of the world's most powerful countries - the G8 - will meet in Canada. Each year these leaders meet to make commitments to alleviate poverty, hunger, HIV/AIDS, malaria, illiteracy, child mortality and poor maternal heather as well as improve environmental sustainability and global partnerships for development. The G8 countries' compliance with their own commitments averages 47%. Since 2005, global faith leaders have met in tandem with G8 meetings to issue a statment calling on the G8 to fulfill their commitments to the world's most poor and vulnerable, and to ensure concrete, discernable, life giving and life sustaining progress in the lives of all people and of our plant.
